NEED BASED SCHOLARSHIPS
Application deadline August 23, 2010
This need based scholarship program is an effort to recognize and encourage students who demonstrate they are academically competitive, exhibit special talents or characteristics, and demonstrate financial need. This need based scholarship program gives priority to those who come from middle-income families and are often ineligible for federal and state grants. Award amounts vary between $250-$1,000 per semester.
There is no set of numbers (SAT, ACT scores, GPA, class rank) that will guarantee a need based scholarship or scholarship amount. Rather, The Art Center Design College looks at the student’s whole record, especially the strong endorsements in recommendations, a background or heritage that would lend diversity to our campus, and an indication the student understands the importance of increasing attention to academic excellence. This may include demonstrating an increase in academic achievement with an upward trend in high school grades or involvement in community services, or if the student has overcome unusual obstacles in their pursuit of education.
Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a tuition credit, not cash, and are applied each semester towards a students’ tuition and fees. In order to remain eligible for subsequent disbursements, students must meet the following minimum requirements:
• Completion of a minimum of 36 credit hours per year (three terms of attendance). If a student withdraws from a class at any time during the semester, thus reducing their course load to less than full-time, may lose their scholarship that semester and may possibly create a balance due on their account. Students that are experiencing difficulties with their class schedule are encouraged to meet with Student Services prior to withdrawing from a course.
• The Student Services Department will notify scholarship recipients approximately 30 days after the application deadline whether or not they have been awarded a scholarship and the amount of the award prior to the beginning of the semester for which they have applied for the scholarship. Information, guidelines, policies, and application forms may be obtained from the student services office at each campus.
